Itinerary | Cycle from Bastille to La Villette

2233-CANAL-SAINT-MARTIN

Vary the pleasure and discover a little piece of Paris differently! This is what we are suggesting with this cycling itinerary that is under 5 kilometres long.

The itinerary is almost exclusively along cycle paths for your safety. The idea is to combine an excursion with a cultural visit! To get going, start at Place de la Bastille at one of the four Vélib bike hire stations that surround the square, unless of course you happen to have your own bicycle.

1168 PLACE DE LA BASTILLE 300x180 Itinerary | Cycle from Bastille to La Villette

Head for the cycle lane on Boulevard Richard Lenoir, then turn left at Boulevard Oberkampf to reach Rue Amelot on which you can make your first stop outside the Cirque d’Hiver de Paris built under Napoleon III. You can admire its rather special façade. (You won’t be able to visit the interior unless you return to see a performance by the Bouglione circus!). Set off again to discover the other side of Boulevard Richard Lenoir, where at n°5 bis on Rue Moufle the stencils by Miss Tic, street poet and visual artist, make the walls talk! Set off along Boulevard Jules Ferry which then becomes Quai de Jemmapes where you can make a stop at number 104, at Loulou les âmes arts which is simultaneously a studio, a second-hand shop and a gallery in which you will find photos, objects and vintage clothing. After this brief shopping stop, continue along Boulevard de la Villette until you reach the rotunda of La Villette, built just before the French Revolution on Place de la Bataille de Stalingrad. Almost there… the Parc de la Villette is not far away; simply follow the Canal Saint Martin. This part of the outing is magical; there is a poetic atmosphere created by the little wooden footbridges and the subterranean vaults. Why not hop off your bike and sit on a bench to watch the boats go by.  Now you have reached your destination: Parc de la Villette! Time for some refreshments?
