556-MUSEE-MOYEN-AGE

The Latin Quarter is the intellectual and student heart of the French capital with its universities, schools and museums, but that’s not all. Latin may no longer be spoken here, but you will find traces of it in the Arènes de Lutèce and the Roman baths, and you can also visit the Panthéon…This cultural and historic walk is very interesting.

Morning

504A PANTHEON The Latin Quarter, along the Seine towards the 13th arrondissement | Intellectual Paris Take a stroll through the pretty streets that make this area outstanding, almost out of time. Walk by the Sorbonne, one of the biggest and most prestigious universities in Paris, before going to the Panthéon, the memorial to major national figures. “Aux grands hommes, la patrie reconnaissante” – “To great men, the grateful nation” is inscribed above the door. Among those buried here are Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas, Marie and Pierre Curie and Victor Hugo.

Swing by the Arènes de Lutèce. Once the scene of gladiator fights, today you can play football or French bowls here. This is a legendary site of ancient Lutetia, the Roman name for Paris. Continue your walk to the garden of the Ecole Normale Supérieure. This is a magnificent haven of peace and tranquillity where students can stroll, study or read.

Lunchtime

“Les Papilles”: French cuisine with a market produce menu that changes daily. We appreciate the natural and traditional feel here, like grandmother used to make.

Afternoon

Head down to the Seine and wander along the river banks… Take Rue Mouffetard up to Place Contrescarpe before going on to admire the view from the top of the Institut du Monde Arabe. 2083 MUSEE HISTOIRE NATURELLE P The Latin Quarter, along the Seine towards the 13th arrondissement | Intellectual Paris Do you have time for one more visit?
