Single product boutiques are very popular with Parisians these days. The latest newcomer is La Maison de la Chantilly, a temple devoted to whipped cream, to be enjoyed with gusto, whether in-house or to take-away.

Restoring Chantilly cream to its former glory

While Chantilly cream has its roots in Italy, the genuine recipe as we know it was invented in the kitchens of the Palace of Chantilly by François Vatel upon the occasion of a sumptuous meal prepared in honour of Louis XIV in 1671. When it later spread throughout the world, the renowned Chantilly lost a little of its splendour and became a pale imitation of the original recipe. That is all about to change with La Maison de la Chantilly which has decided to restore this symbol of French art de vivre to its former glory by offering it a fine setting where whipped cream is the only product on display. The Chantilly cream here is made from sweet crème fraiche that is rich in natural fat that is whipped until it obtains a texture that is simultaneously firm and light, a sign of its generous nature. This is a genuine rediscovery of a product that you thought you knew.

Chantilly cream in delicious versions

The crème de la crème is freshly whipped and can be enjoyed at the Chantilly bar, to eat in or take out, and it also takes its place in a range of treats such as a crunchy biscuit cone, the house specialty, in a classic chou profiterole version or in a Pavlova for a divine blend of meringue and seasonal fruits. Would you like some more? The Chantilly is also available in hot drinks with the Viennois style Chantilly hot chocolate and the Chantilly coffee, but above all in the Chanticcino created by the House – a creamy coffee that can be enjoyed like a dessert. You may well become an addict. For those with a really sweet tooth, you can continue to enjoy it at home in the grocery area that allows you to take home a bottle of genuine cream for Chantilly (already available at La Grande Epicerie) to whip yourself to go with your desserts. Expect to pay €5.50 for 250ml and €8.50 for 500ml.
