The French language is teeming with strange expressions, so Shaman decided to have some fun with them. The result: this illustrator has placed his favourite phrases on t-shirts and sweatshirt that are full of humour and retro wit.
Reviving old expressions
An artist from Normandy, Shaman plays with old-fashioned phrases and expressions to redesign the world his way. On t-shirts and sweatshirts for men and women and also on notebooks, bags and posters that say: “Moulin à paroles” (Chatterbox), “Faut pas pousser mémé dans les orties” (Don’t push it), “Minute papillon” (Hold your horses), “En voiture Simone” (Home, James), “On n’est pas sorti de l’auberge” (We’re not out of the woods yet)… And to complete this tribute to the language of Molière, the artist also illustrates some of the expressions: “Vieux loup de mer” (Old sea dog) comes with a picture of a sailor with a wolf’s head, “Franchouillard” (Froggy) with a frog wearing a beret, “Tu me rends chèvre” (You’re driving me round the bend) with a cute goat… All with just a soupçon of “French arrogance”, another creation that is a reminder of clichés about the French people. Authentic style that doesn’t take itself too seriously!
Original joint ventures
To spice up the collections, Shaman is always happy to associate with original brands! With Auguste Derrière, the t-shirts have small ads: “Mec velu cherche nana au poil” and with Menthe à l’eau, the words become embroidery. More to follow…
To give the words more weight, Shaman only prints on quality clothing. The t-shirts are in organic cotton and the clothes are printed in an artisanal way in the brand’s studio in Pont-Audemer (in France) for ethical manufacturing that is respectful of the environment that Shaman holds dear. You can find Shaman’s designs in the online shop www.shaman-shop.fr and also in La Chaise Longue boutiques and other points of sale.
