With its lovely fabrics and wallpaper that have been printed since 1935, the house of Pierre Frey sums up French art de vivre: a blend of tradition and modernity, simultaneously timeless and in constant evolution.
A family affair
In this family business, a love of textiles has been handed down from generation to generation. The founder, Pierre Frey, created his textile manufacturing company in 1935 after learning the trade at renowned manufacturers such as Burger and Lauer. Success was not slow in coming and the decorators and artists of the period soon trusted him with their designs and flocked to the now famous house of Pierre Frey, a name synonymous with luxury and French tradition. Since 1969, Patrick Frey, Pierre’s son, has held the reins of the company and perpetuates the traditional manufacturing while developing the business in the fields of decoration and home furnishing. A new chapter of this family’s story began in 2011 when Pierre, Vincent and Matthieu, Pierre Frey’s grandsons joined the adventure.
Know-how and reputation
Since 1935, the house has designed, printed and manufactured fabrics and wallpaper that are outstanding both in terms of the quality of the materials and the design, colours and patterns that have made the brand’s name. The designs can be found in luxury hotels, museums, stately homes and anywhere inhabited by people who are attuned to the history of art de vivre as exuded by Pierre Frey. The house today counts three other brands which have joined forces with the original excellence: Braquenié, a historical brand created in 1824, particularly famous for its floral indian fabrics, Fadini Borghi, a leading light in Italian silk and Boussac, a brand launched in 1933 which is popular for the daring nature of its patterns and its technical prowess. In total, Pierre Frey can count on a collection that contains 7,000 references.
Archives as heritage
Conscious of the heritage of which it is part, the house of Pierre Frey has placed an impressive collection of archive materials at the disposal of its clients that contains no fewer than 30,000 items, such as design plates, fabrics and other models ranging from the 16th century to the present day. It can be searched by period, colour, pattern or technique. It is not unusual to find these exceptional pieces in museums.
