Historic monuments

DSCF6175 Château d’Auvers sur Oise | A virtual journey to the days of the impressionnists

Paris is filled with monuments from every era : vestiges of the Gallo-roman period still exist in the Latin Quarter, on the Sainte-Geneviève hill and the Ile de la Cité and the Saint-Germain-des-Prés areas retain monuments from the Middle Ages. Monuments are plentiful in the areas around the Louvre, the Marais, or Ile Saint-Louis with buildings dating from Renaissance times to the 18th century. The Champs Elysées area, the west of Paris and the Grands boulevards, to name but a few, offer good examples of urbanisation and the architecture of the 19th century. Finally, the imprint of the 20th and the 21st centuries can be seen here and there all over Paris, particularly in the west at La Défense and in the east in the area around the François Mitterrand Library.
